Teachers and students are actively using many technology resources for teaching and learning. Jordan integrates technology into the fabric of school life. Chromebooks, iPads, laptops, you name it! For instance, Mrs. Carlisle is already using Popplet on the iPads in her Native American regions project. Mrs. Ellis, our technology mentor and webmaster, is using Chromebooks daily for writing in Google Docs. We even have two teachers piloting personal devices in class. One example is Mrs. Missett, who has her students calling her Google voice number to tell her why history is important.
Jordan teachers communicate online via Schoology and post homework assignments, test dates, and upload files or course related links. Schoology is a powerful system that includes online tests, discussions and the ability for students to review class work. The Schoology calendar is very beneficial for teachers and core teams when planning the homework workload for students. Teachers can see the homework that other colleagues have assigned to their students.
Parents can access Schoology and see their students’ workload too. Directions for access are on the Jordan website at https://sites.google.com/site/jordanmsweb/parents/schoology-help. Parents, please be sure to use your email address as the username.
Students also access Schoology, but through a different portal-they must first login to the PAUSD Student Gateway at https://palo-alto.edu. All students have been guided through the login and password change process to the Student Gateway by their 7th and 8th grade science teachers and their 6th grade teachers. The Student Gateway includes access to Schoology and also gives students access to their Google Docs, which more and more teachers are asking students to use for classroom assignments, collaboration, and productivity.
See photos below of students in Mrs. Missett’s seventh grade social studies class sharing and using their cell phones, Mrs. Carlisle’s eighth grade social studies class on iPads, and Mrs. Ellis’s seventh grade English class writing on Chromebooks that she obtained through a Donors Choose grant.
