Parent Networks

Want to meet other parents in your student’s grade and find out what really goes on at school? Jordan’s Parent Network brings together parents in each grade level to share successes and challenges and parenting ideas related to the social, emotional, and physical development of our children — everything from discussing homework strategies to setting boundaries about music, movies or dating.  We do this in two ways.

First, we have an UpToUs group set up for each class to share ideas and concerns.  When your student graduates from Jordan Middle School, your grade Yahoo group will automatically roll into the Palo Alto High School grade group.

Second, we hold monthly events for parents by grade level to share ideas face-to-face and meet with relevant guest speakers.  The monthly meetings are a unique forum to encourage communications between parents about important topics related to students in their particular grade. Parent Network groups usually meet on Fridays, starting in September, 6-8 times per year either for coffee in the morning or an event in the evening. Examples of guest speakers include the Principal, Jordan and Paly school counselors, and experts in particular areas of concern.  Follow up notes are typically provided for parents that are unable to attend.

  • 6th grade parents — 3rd Friday of the month
  • 7th grade parents — 2nd Friday of the month
  • 8th grade parents — 1st Friday of the month

Parent networks are not political, advocacy, or formal parent education groups; they are not channels for airing individual grievances about school policy or personnel. We do not take positions on issues as an organization or seek consensus on appropriate parenting styles, nor are gatherings appropriate for discussion of school-specific issues such as child-teacher or parent-teacher conflicts. These yahoo groups are for Jordan parents only.
